Did You Know?
Only 3% of the agricultural land on earth is used for cotton growing, but it consumes 25% of the pesticide used in total. This shows that the conventional way of growing cotton is extremely harmful for the eco-system and our environment.

What makes Opurna cotton so special?
Opurna uses only 100% organic naturally coloured cotton. No chemical pesticides. No synthetic fertilizers. No bleach. No dyes. No formaldehyde. We believe less is more.

What is organic cotton?
According to the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) there are strict rules for organic cotton growing: seeds must not be genetically modified; soil has to stay away from chemical pesticide for a continuous three-year period; only natural fertilizers, such as fish meal and coconut shell, are allowed; and cotton must be picked by hand to avoid any damage or contamination to the plants.

Why is organic cotton better?
Organic cotton is an important alternative to intensively farmed conventional cotton. By growing organic instead of conventional cotton we can contribute to the reduced use of pesticides, thus reducing greenhouse gases and protecting water, air, soil, and wildlife.

What is naturally coloured cotton?
Naturally coloured cotton is a unique pigmented fiber that grows in shades ranging from light green to tan and brown.

Naturally coloured cottons are environmentally friendly because of their many insect and disease-resistant qualities and ability to tolerate drought and salt.

Textiles made from naturally coloured cotton have many inherent benefits: they provide excellent sun protection; a higher oxygen index means fabrics are less flammable; their colour does not fade, but becomes stronger and more intense with laundering; and best of all, they are extremely soft to the touch.

Naturally coloured cotton fabrics can be safely used even by those with sensitive skin. Because these fabrics do not need to be dyed, wearers are not exposed to the adverse effects of artificial dyes, such as allergy and itching.
